Tirlebrook Turned PINK!

20/10/2017

Today our whole school community joined together to turn Tirlebrook PINK!
Everyone wore pink to show support for cancer research and donations were collected to raise money for this worthy charity.
It was wonderful to see our school community coming together in such a vibrant way to show support for our valued team member Mrs Plant who has been absent over the last few months whilst she is treated for cancer. Our best wishes to Mrs Plant and her family as we end this term in style wearing pink.

This afternoon, as part of School Council's Anti-Bullying Week 2017, children from Years 1-6 took part in House Huddles to make and decorate anti-bullying posters and banners for display around the school. The children have also been busy decorating Anti-Bullying “Tewkesbury Pebbles”, which they will go on to hide around Tewkesbury to spread the anti-bullying message far and wide!

Harvest Assembly 2017

Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us today! We cannot thank you enough for your generosity  with donations of fresh produce (including some from our own school allotment) and long-date tinned and packet items for our Harvest display. We were able to share a lovely service of thanksgiving together and the children's singing was wonderfully uplifting.

The food items have been distributed within our local community following our Harvest assembly. We were able to donate many items to the local Foodbank in Tewkesbury. We also had a great time visiting with our elderly friends and neighbours at Barton Court and were able to share some of our Harvest donations with them as well as singing some of our Harvest songs to them and enjoying a visit.

Y4 Visit to the Corinium Museum and Roman Amphitheatre

On Thursday 5th October Silver Birch Class travelled to Cirencester to explore Roman history and enrich their learning about their current topic. They took part in an Active Learning session with Volly, a wonderfully engaging teacher who knew lots about Roman history. The children most certainly impressed her with their in depth knowledge about the Romans and Boudicca and it was great to see the children's learning challenged and shared. Y4 then spent time delving into different activities: dressing up as Roman citizens; sorting foods that the Romans would have enjoyed; learning about the cooking equipment they may have used; creating a variety of eye-catching mosaic patterns and playing some Roman games (please see Y4 class blog for photographs).
Next they headed over to the amphitheatre to extend their learning in the great outdoors.
The afternoon was spent exploring the museum and included lots of hands-on activities for the children to enjoy. They looked for clues and information amongst the exhibitions, found Boudicca's tombstone and a glass jar that was suspiciously found next to the body of a woman. What a busy day! The children were extremely enthusiastic and their manners and behaviour were fantastic! It was a positive educational experience and Year 4 represented our school fabulously. Well done Silver Birch Class and a huge thank you to all the adults who accompanied them.

KS2 World Marathon House Challenge

On Wednesday 27th September, our juniors competed in the World Marathon House Challenge, a competition in which each house team was required to complete 25 laps of our 200m track as quickly as possible. Each team was aiming to be the first house to finish. Our house teams warmed themselves up, led by our brand new Year 6 Sports Leaders, before lining up to begin their race. One by one, each competitor completed their 200m leg of the twenty-five lap relay, before passing the baton onto their next house runner. Throughout the event, it was difficult to tell who was in the lead, with so many runners zooming past on the track. Ultimately, Wenlock House were the clear winners in the Year 5 and Year 6 race, whilst Montague House crossed the finishing line first in the Year 3 and Year 4 race. Every single house group ran with determination, enthusiasm and great excitement. At the end of this thrilling event, the times from both the Year 3 and Year 4 race and the Year 5 and Year 6 race were combined to give us our first inter-house competition winners of the year. With a combined time of 39 minutes and 27 seconds, Montague House were the overall winners. Wenlock were our runners-up, followed by Hastings and Beauchamp. Congratulations to Montague! Well done everyone on a great afternoon of competitive running.
