Welcome to the first day of Maths Week here at Tirlebrook!
Year 5 and Year 6 are already busy solving problems in a maths puzzle workshop. What a great way to start the week. A belated welcome back! We hope you all enjoyed the half term break. It has been great to hear about some of the things the children got involved with.
We have begun the term by reflecting on how we can learn a lot from our mistakes and from being willing to have a go. Well done to our Year 3 and Year 4 gymnasts who went off to compete at Rowanfield Gym Club this morning.
They showed great teamwork and determination as they competed against pupils from other schools in the Cheltenham Sports Network. Congratulations to our two Year 6 Young Sports Leaders who did a fantastic job coaching the team and supporting Miss Featonby in preparing the children for the competition. Today is Safer Internet Day!
Safer Internet Day 2016 is taking place today, on the 9th February, with the theme Play your part for a better internet! We had a whole school assembly and have been spending time in class discussing how to stay safe online. E-safety Council have also arranged for the children to gather in 'house huddles' this afternoon to make pledges to keep safe on the internet. It was great to see so many parents staying on in Oak Tree Class this morning to play and learn with the children. There were lots of activities to get involved with from making play dough to writing to den building to name but a few!
It was wonderful to be able to celebrate the musical talents of some of our pupils this afternoon as they played for us in assembly. Many thanks to Mrs Thomas for organising this event and to Miss Streeter for her help and support.
Congratulations to all our musicians for playing so well in front of such a large audience! A fantastic experience for some of our pupils on Tuesday night as they headed off to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United play Stoke City.
Some great goals scored by United as they came out the winners! Year 2 have been enjoying a live broadcast with Tim Peake, the British astronaut, on the International Space Station.
They have been listening to him answering questions from school children about being in space. |
